The College Careers Fund of Westchester is a private, not-for-profit corporation founded in 1967 to make higher education opportunities a reality for educationally and economically challenged teens and young adults.  This is accomplished through counseling, workshops, and financial support, which empower young people to take positive steps to improve their lives.

Getting Students to the Starting Line.

Many low income students in Westchester County don’t think about winning the race. For them, the greater challenge is being able to enter the race. They lack the financial resources, guidance, and support that so many Westchester students take for granted when considering advanced education. College Careers was founded with the goal of helping students like these get to the starting line with the necessary tools to participate in the race, sustain momentum, gain stamina, and finish.

The College Careers College Program serves more than 260 low income, primarily African-American and Hispanic high school students each year. Our one-one counseling, college admissions preparation, financial assistance, and mentoring helps these students jump the hurdles to entry into the State University of New York (SUNY) system, historically Black colleges and universities and other schools throughout the country. We provide on-going support from high school through college matriculation.

College Careers also reaches out annually to over 1,200 teens and young adults through pre-college and life skills workshops that help get them on track with career and employment goals.

Our Track Record

Since the program’s inception, more than 2500 students  have enjoyed tremendous success in college and in the work force. Over 75 percent of students remain in college each year, assisted  by ongoing coaching from College Careers throughout their higher education process.

Most students graduate from four-year undergraduate programs, 75 have received a master’s degree, and 10 have received a doctoral or law degree.  Students who attended and graduated college with the assistance of College Careers have flourished in the workforce, and have distinguished themselves as lawyers, teachers, business managers, nurses and social workers, and other fields.

What Makes Us Unique

Our counselors work with a variety of youth, many of whom are not considered traditional college candidates.  They lack the confidence and support that is essential for academic success. Our students are  often the first  in their families to attend college, which is why College Careers counselors play such a critical role in the lives of each student, helping them to obtain the necessary skills to gain admission and prosper in college.
